Why consult an exercise Physiologist rather than a Physiotherapist?

The 2 professions usually get confused. They usually work alongside each other.
Along with rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries, exercise physiologists can also provide treatment and advice for diseases and conditions not traditionally treated by a physiotherapist.

Exercise Physiology for Chronic disease and condition management:

These can include:

  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Pulmonary disease
  • Metabolic disease
  • Neurological disease
  • Musculoskeletal disease (including arthritis, osteoporosis/osteopenia, acute and/or chronic musculoskeletal issues)
  • Depression and other mental health conditions

Exercise Physiology for Sports injury and musculoskeletal Injuries:

Exercise plays an important part of recovering from injury. Early rehabilitation aids a faster recovery, less weakness due to inactivity and an earlier restoration of function as the body recovers.

Exercise helps to improve flexibility, restore muscle strength, endurance and power. It also plays a major part in preventing re-injury. A thorough assessment allows our therapist to address any deficiencies that may increase risk of re-injury. We will also look at the requirements of your sport and provide a functional rehabilitation program.

Exercise Physiology for Workcover and CTP injuries:

Chatswood Allied health Exercise Physiologists areĀ Workcover and CTP accredited. They are trained to provide functional exercise prescription designed to return injured workers back to work as quickly as possible. Exercise rehabilitation provides a good transition from Physiotherapy to returning an injured worker to demands required of their occupation.

This may range from postural exercises and stretches for an office worker to a gym program that may be required for an occupation that involves a lot of strenuous activity.

A long-term program will be set up to help reduce the probability of re-injury.
